The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reaffirmed its firm commitment to championing women’s inclusion in leadership and governance. National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola recently emphasized the party’s constitutional dedication to inclusivity and equity, underscoring unequivocal support for HB 1383, the Women Representation Bill aimed at increasing women’s representation in government.
Rauf Aregbesola highlighted the ADC’s pledge to set aside significant percentages of elective and appointive positions for women and youth, targeting at least 50 percent inclusive representation with specific reservations of 35 percent each for women and youth. He made it clear that this is not a matter of tokenism but an essential strategy recognizing the pivotal role women and youth play in Nigeria’s future.
The ADC has also embarked on tangible empowerment initiatives such as training programs designed to equip women for active frontline political roles, helping to shift the perception of women’s political participation from peripheral to central. These efforts align with the party’s broader vision of inclusive leadership that genuinely reflects Nigeria’s diverse society and addresses current political and social challenges.
