A motor assistant has died after a tipper truck suffered brake failure and collided with another truck in the Epe area of Lagos State on Saturday.
The truck collision occurred at about 6:19 a.m. at Oke-Oso, inward Itokin, when one of the trucks lost control and had a side collision with another, ValidViewNetwork reports.
THE INCIDENT
According to the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the collision threw the motor assistant off the vehicle, killing him on impact.
“Investigation revealed that one of the trucks with registration number ABG-226XB suffered brake failure, lost control and had a side collision with another tipper,” he said.
“Sadly, the motor assistant of the first truck was thrown off the vehicle and died on impact. One other person was injured.”
The deceased’s remains were recovered and handed over to the Federal Road Safety Corps, while both trucks were removed from the scene and taken to the FRSC office.
THE WARNING
LASEMA commiserated with the family of the deceased and urged motorists to maintain their vehicles, avoid driving under the influence of alcohol and adhere strictly to road safety regulations.
WHY IT MATTERS
The death of the motorboy is a tragedy that could have been prevented.
Brake failure is one of the most common causes of fatal accidents involving heavy-duty trucks in Nigeria. It is also one of the most preventable. Regular maintenance, proper inspections and responsible driving can mean the difference between a safe journey and a fatal crash.
For the family of the deceased, the loss is devastating.
For the transport industry, it is a reminder that safety must come before profit.

And for the authorities, it is a call to enforce vehicle standards more rigorously. The investigation continues. But for the motorboy, it is too late. ValidViewNetwork reports.
