The death of veteran actor Olu Jacobs has continued to draw tributes from across Nigeria, with former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun describing the loss as deeply significant to the country’s film industry.
ValidViewNetwork reports that Amosun joined the growing tributes following the death of Jacobs at 84.
The former governor described Jacobs’ death as an “irreparable loss” to Nigeria’s film industry, highlighting the actor’s contribution to the development and visibility of Nigerian entertainment.
Jacobs spent decades in theatre, television and film, becoming one of the best-known figures of the Nigerian acting profession.
His death on Wednesday has prompted tributes from political leaders, actors and other members of the creative community.
President Bola Tinubu also described him as a distinguished actor whose career helped shape Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
For Ogun State, the tribute carries an additional cultural connection. Jacobs had publicly identified with his Ogun roots and had previously encouraged successful indigenes living outside the state to contribute to its development.
His passing therefore closes a major chapter in Nigeria’s acting history.
