Ghana Launches App to Verify Partners’ Marital Status

The Ghanaian Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has launched ‘Marrify,’ a digital platform that allows members of the public to verify marriage and divorce records, as well as check marriage officers, venues and licensed Imams, in a bid to reduce the emotional and financial risks associated with hidden marriages.

A Digital Solution to an Age-Old Problem

ValidViewNetwork gathered that the Ghanaian Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has launched ‘Marrify,’ a digital platform that allows members of the public to verify marriage and divorce records.

The app, launched in Accra on August 28, 2026, in partnership with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), is a publicly searchable platform that enables the public to verify whether marriage venues are licensed, check the credentials of marriage officers, and confirm the marital status of prospective partners.

How It Works

Marrify pulls legal data from the Registrar-General’s Department, courts, assemblies, and the Ghana Gazette to check marital status.

Records cover ordinance, customary and Islamic marriages.The app is designed to help people verify the marital status of their prospective partners before entering into marriage.

The move aims to reduce the emotional and financial risks associated with hidden marriages.
