Twilight of an Era: CR7 Eyes Life After Football
Football icon Cristiano Ronaldo has given his clearest indication yet that the upcoming 2026–27 season will likely be his final chapter in professional football.
Fresh off an intimate civil wedding to his long-time partner, Georgina Rodríguez, in Cascais, Portugal, the 41-year-old Al-Nassr forward opened up about his impending retirement in a revealing interview with Vogue.
”This is probably my last year of football, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy,” Ronaldo shared.
Having recently featured for Portugal at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America and amassed over 900 senior career goals, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner emphasized that he has his post-football life fully mapped out. Rather than fearing the transition, the legendary forward is looking forward to spending more quality time with his family, traveling, and pursuing recreational passions like padel.
”Because football could leave a big hole, you have to fill your time in various ways, not just one,” Ronaldo noted. “After all, it’s been 25 years with a lot of sacrifice.”
