Tragedy in Nagoya: Pedestrian Killed by Falling Man

​A routine late-night walk through the bustling Sakae entertainment district of Nagoya turned fatal under freak circumstances, after a 29-year-old man plunged from a 12-storey residential building and collided with a 23-year-old female pedestrian.

​The incident unfolded at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 19, along a sidewalk in the city’s Naka Ward. According to local authorities and emergency services, Houra Inaba was walking home alongside a companion when Shinsei Taguchi fell from the high-rise structure, landing directly onto her.

​Emergency responders rushed both individuals to a nearby hospital. Inaba succumbed to her injuries roughly four and a half hours later, passing away from hemorrhagic shock. Her walking companion escaped the incident physically uninjured.

​Taguchi, identified by investigators as non-resident of the apartment block, survived the impact but remains unconscious in critical condition with severe head and chest trauma.

​Prefectural police have launched a full-scale inquiry to piece together the sequence of events leading up to the tragedy. Investigators are working to determine whether Taguchi fell accidentally, jumped intentionally, or if other factors were involved. Authorities have noted that no suicide note was recovered at the scene, and officers are meticulously examining the building floor by floor to establish from which level he descended, as well as his reasons for being inside the building.
