MAIDUGURI — Troops operating under the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have arrested a 32-year-old Sudanese national identified as Musa Fashir, suspected to be a foreign terrorist fighter and collaborator, during a security sweep in Borno State.
The intelligence-led operation was executed by troops of the 115 Task Force Battalion at approximately 11:48 a.m. on July 19, 2026, in the Lassa and Dille general area of Askira/Uba Local Government Area. Preliminary intelligence suggests that the foreign suspect had established active operational connections with insurgent elements, underscoring ongoing efforts by external actors to infiltrate and sustain terrorist networks in the Lake Chad basin region.
During the same security sweep, military personnel also apprehended 36-year-old Mary Florence, who claimed to be an illegal immigrant from the Republic of Ghana. Authorities report that the exact motives behind her presence in the volatile district and the legitimacy of her nationality claims are currently under rigorous investigation.
Both suspects have been placed in military custody, where they are undergoing preliminary profiling and deep interrogation. The process aims to establish their comprehensive identities, map out the depth of their operational activities, and determine any possible integration into transnational criminal syndicates or regional insurgent groups.
Military high command maintains that these arrests reflect the persistent vigilance and efficacy of Operation HADIN KAI’s intelligence infrastructure. Security forces continue to tighten the noose around terrorist logistics, financing, and foreign infiltration channels across the North East theatre.
The military has reiterated its call for members of the public to sustain local cooperation by sharing timely, credible information with security agencies, emphasizing that civic vigilance remains vital to restoring lasting peace, stability, and security to the region.
