Beer Empire Heir Sacked Amid Abuse Claims

BANGKOK — The multi-billion-dollar dynasty behind Thailand’s iconic Singha beer has been rocked by a harrowing family scandal after an executive was ousted following public allegations of prolonged childhood sexual abuse.

​Sunit “Pi” Scott has stepped down from all positions within Boonrawd Brewery, the family’s sprawling conglomerate, after his younger brother, environmental activist Siranudh Scott, 29, leveled a series of explosive accusations against him in an emotional video broadcast online.

​A Decade of Alleged Abuse

​Speaking through tears, Siranudh alleged that his elder brother subjected him to a years-long campaign of incestuous sexual abuse between the ages of 12 and 24, taking place within the family’s private mansions.

​Siranudh also leveled sharp criticism at the broader family, claiming they were fully aware of the misconduct but chose to protect the family’s corporate reputation rather than intervene.

​”Everyone in my family knows it because they listened to the tape I recorded of his confession,” Siranudh stated, adding that no action was taken at the time. Declaring that he no longer wanted to be associated with the family legacy or referred to as a “Singha heir,” he added, “I don’t want to stay in a family that doesn’t value me or have empathy for me. I can’t live with this kind of people.”

​In a swift response to the mounting public pressure, Boonrawd Brewery Company issued a formal statement confirming that Sunit had been “dismissed” from all active duties. The statement, signed by company CEO Bhurit Bhirombhakdi—the brothers’ cousin—expressed deep regret over the situation.

​”The company would like to express its deepest regret to Siranudh Scott for what happened,” the statement read, adding that management is fully cooperating with relevant authorities in their ongoing investigations.

​Alongside the corporate announcement, a resignation letter from Sunit was made public.

​”In order to ensure fairness for all parties, I hereby resign from my duties as an employee and executive … until the matter is clarified and conclusively proved,” Sunit wrote.

​Sunit has previously denied the allegations of sexual abuse, characterizing the encounters as aggressive “roughhouse play” between growing boys.

​The Bhirombhakdi family commands one of Southeast Asia’s most formidable business empires. Ranked by Forbes as the 15th richest dynasty in Thailand, the family boasts a collective net worth estimated at $1.75 billion.

​While internationally famous for Singha and Leo beers, the Boonrawd Brewery conglomerate has diversified aggressively over the decades. Today, the family’s holdings span food manufacturing, luxury hotels, power generation, and extensive real estate portfolios.
