Tragedy in Benue: Ex-Otukpo LG Chairman Slumps, Dies Four Days After Wife’s Passing

​OTUKPO – The people of Otukpo Local Government Area and the Benue State political community are in deep mourning following the sudden death of Hon. Udeh Ijachi, a former Caretaker Chairman of the council.

​The tragedy is compounded by the fact that Hon. Ijachi, widely known by his title “Honourable Ukpem,” passed away just four days after the death of his beloved wife. Sources close to the family reveal that the former chairman had been under immense emotional distress following his spouse’s demise.

​According to eyewitness accounts, Ijachi slumped unexpectedly and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel confirmed him dead. While official medical reports are yet to be released, many in the community attribute his sudden collapse to the overwhelming grief of losing his partner of many years.

​Ijachi’s death marks a grim chapter for the family, coming only months after the violent loss of his brother, Ejeh Udeh Ijachi, who was assassinated in a late-night attack.

​A prominent figure in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and a respected community leader, Hon. Ijachi was known for his dedication to the development of Otukpo during his tenure. Friends and political associates have described him as a “gentle soul” and a “pillar of the community.”
