🏛️ Political Battlefield 2027
Former Minister of Interior and former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, now serving as the National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has thrown down the gauntlet to the ruling party, asserting they will be powerless to manipulate the upcoming 2027 general elections. Speaking at the official unveiling of the ADC’s chapter in Osogbo on Tuesday, Aregbesola declared, “Nobody can rig us out, we know their ways,” signaling his confidence in overcoming any electoral malpractices.
📅 A Symbolic Anniversary
The event in Osogbo was deeply symbolic for Aregbesola, as it marked the 15th anniversary of his administration’s assumption of office in Osun State in 2010. He described the occasion as a timely confluence, leveraging the historical significance to launch the party’s platform in the state.

Aregbesola, who recently defected to the ADC after being expelled from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2025, now holds the interim national secretary position as part of a coalition effort that has seen the ADC positioning itself as a major opposition force for the 2027 polls.
🎯 ADC’s Vision: The Viable Alternative
The former governor was emphatic in presenting the ADC as the crucial alternative needed to address Nigeria’s mounting challenges. He specifically cited issues of insecurity, maladministration, poverty, hunger, and a widespread absence of good governance as the core problems the party is poised to tackle.

Aregbesola’s appointment as interim National Secretary, alongside former Senate President David Mark as interim National Chairman, is part of a broader political coalition that has adopted the ADC as the platform to challenge the ruling party. However, this transition has not been without controversy; a Federal High Court in Abuja had previously issued an interim order restraining both Aregbesola and Mark from presenting themselves as ADC leaders, following a legal challenge filed by a faction insisting on the legitimacy of a different party chairman. Despite these internal disputes, the party leaders have continued to push forward with their re-alignment and mobilization efforts.

The ADC’s unveiling in Osogbo underscores its strategy to mobilize grassroots support and leverage the experience of high-profile defectors like Aregbesola to launch a robust campaign for the next electoral cycle.
