The Anambra State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare has saved a 13-year-old girl who gave birth to a child after allegedly being impregnated by her guardian, Mr. Sunday Muoghalu.
The teen mother and her newborn were photographed at a hospital in Adazi-Nnukwu, the state’s Anaocha Local Government Area, as word of the baby’s birth spread over the weekend on social media.
She was being held because she couldn’t afford to pay her hospital bills.
She was saved by a team from the women’s ministry and placed into safe care as a result of the circumstance, which prompted the state government to seek her.
Muoghalu was detained on Sunday and turned over to the police, according to the ministry’s spokesperson Chidimma Ikeanyionwu on Monday.
The young woman claimed to be an Akwa Ibom State native, although her biological parents resided in Agulu, Anambra State.
She remarked, “Madam Ghana is the name of Mr. Muoghalu’s wife. This began when Madam Ghana visited the village.
“Not just myself is involved, either. Mr. Muoghalu used to sleep with another girl, who is seven years old.”
He started pressuring me to sleep with him as I started to notice my period. I once informed Madam Ghana about it, and she warned her husband, but when it persisted, I was helpless.
The offender will soon face charges, according to the state’s commissioner for women’s and children’s welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo.
She remarked, “If the suspect is denying guilt, we will keep interrogating him until we identify the guilty party.
“The truth of the case is that the girl was slept with and placed in the family way, and that is wholly incorrect.
“Whoever it is, needs to be held accountable, and this government is determined to achieve that.”
The 75-year-old said he was only having fun with the woman and never planned to get her pregnant.
Investigations, according to DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesman for the state police, are still ongoing.
