
A Magistrates’ Court in Plateau State on Wednesday sentenced a 20-year old tailor, Abubakar Lawan, to two years imprisonment for breaking into the house of a police officer and stealing items worth N331,8000.
The convict pleaded guilty to the charge of house breaking and theft when he appeared before the court.
Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos summarily sentenced Lawan to one year imprisonment without an option of fine and to also pay a compensation of N300,000 to the complainant and in default another one year in prison.
He said the judgment would serve as a deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such illegal acts.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Inspector Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported on January 15, 2024 at the “C” Division Police station by one Inspector Aliya Ibrahim, the complainant.
Gokwat said the convict broke into the house and stole two flat screen televisions, one motorcycle battle, carpet, two decoders, trousers and jacket, all valued at N331,800.
He said the convict committed the offence punishable under the provisions of the Plateau State Penal Code Law.
