The Nigerian Army on Thursday has handed over Lydia Simon, a rescued Chibok schoolgirl, and her three children to the Borno State government for reunification with her family.
Maj. Gen. Waidi Shuaibu, the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, disclosed this during a ceremony at the Mailmalari Cantonment in Maiduguri.
He revealed that troops from the 82 Division Task Force Battalion rescued Lydia Simon, who was pregnant at the time, alongside her three children on April 17 in the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

She was identified as number 18 among the girls rescued by the Nigerian military.
Shuaibu noted the significant efforts made both nationally and internationally to return the abducted Chibok schoolgirls safely to their families, citing the #BringBackOurGirls campaign.
He emphasized ongoing military operations deep within terrorist enclaves as part of the efforts, which have resulted in the rescue of some Chibok girls.
The Theatre Commander expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff for providing resources to the theatre to fulfill its mandate.
Brig. Gen. Abubakar Haruna, the acting General Officer Commanding of 7 Division, stated that Lydia Simon received medical treatment and other care from the division since her release.
