A pioneering voice of indigenous Nigerian hip-hop has entered a new chapter, with veteran rapper Olusegun Osaniyi, popularly known as Lord of Ajasa, becoming a United States citizen.

For an artiste whose career helped establish Yoruba-language rap in Nigeria’s mainstream music culture, the milestone has attracted congratulations from colleagues and fans.

LORD OF AJASA CELEBRATES

The veteran rapper shared photographs and video clips from the citizenship milestone on his social media page.

One of the images showed him holding his American citizenship certificate, while another featured him with his wife and the American flag.

ValidViewNetwork reports that the announcement generated congratulatory messages from fellow entertainers, including music producer ID Cabasa and singer 9ice.

A PIONEER OF INDIGENOUS RAP

Lord of Ajasa is widely regarded as one of the pioneers who helped take Yoruba rap into Nigeria’s mainstream music scene. His career predates the emergence of several later indigenous-language rap stars who would make the style a major force in Nigerian popular music.

His influence is particularly associated with the early development of Yoruba hip-hop.

ValidViewNetwork can confirm that the citizenship development has revived discussion about his contribution to Nigerian music history.

A PERSONAL MILESTONE

Citizenship is ultimately a personal achievement, and Lord of Ajasa has chosen to celebrate it publicly. The development also reflects the international journeys of many Nigerian artistes who have built careers or personal lives across borders.

There is no contradiction between celebrating the achievement and recognising his contribution to Nigerian music.

ValidViewNetwork authoritatively reports that citizenship does not erase the cultural legacy of an artiste. Lord of Ajasa remains part of the history of indigenous Nigerian hip-hop, regardless of where he now holds citizenship.

His latest milestone is therefore both personal and symbolic: a Nigerian music pioneer beginning another chapter abroad after helping shape a distinctly Nigerian sound at home.
