Growing up as the daughters of one of Africa’s richest men could easily have meant growing up under a very public display of wealth.

Halima, Fatima and Mariya Dangote say they chose a different path.

In a resurfaced interview from Bloomberg’s Next Africa, Halima said the sisters did not grow up “spoilt” despite the privilege surrounding their family. “We are not spoilt,” she said.

She explained that she and her sisters preferred to keep their identities and possessions private when dealing with people from similar wealthy backgrounds. The sisters, she said, were not particularly interested in displaying what they owned or using the Dangote name as a social introduction.

Halima said it was easier when people did not recognise them and that they preferred their work to speak first. “Our results speak for themselves,” she said, pointing to business performance, growth and financial figures as measures of achievement.

The comment offers a glimpse into the less visible side of Nigeria’s most prominent business family. The three sisters now occupy senior positions within the Dangote Group, giving the discussion a second dimension beyond family privilege: succession.

Their father, Aliko Dangote, has previously said that having a male heir was not a priority for him and that he believes his three daughters are capable of taking the family business forward.

For Halima, however, the focus remains less on the family name and more on what the sisters can produce within the business.

She said the sisters are not as expressive about their possessions and lifestyle on social media as some people from similar backgrounds.

That deliberate privacy may also explain why the resurfaced interview attracted attention.

Nigerians were not simply hearing the children of a billionaire discuss wealth. They were hearing them describe how they believe they have navigated it.

ValidViewNetwork reports that Halima Dangote’s comments have renewed public interest in the private lives of the Dangote sisters, their roles in the family conglomerate and the expectations that come with inheriting one of Africa’s biggest business empires. ValidViewNetwork reports.
