The Trade Fair Complex in Lagos has declared zero tolerance for counterfeit drinks and pledged full support for the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) following a major bust of fake beverages at the market.
THE COMMITMENT
The management of the Trade Fair Complex said it would not tolerate the sale of fake or substandard products within its premises and would work with NAFDAC to sanitise the market.
The commitment follows a NAFDAC operation in which counterfeit drinks were seized from the complex.
THE NAFDAC CRACKDOWN
NAFDAC has intensified its crackdown on counterfeit beverages and food products across Nigeria in recent months, seizing fake drinks and shutting down illegal production facilities.
The agency has warned that counterfeit products pose serious health risks to consumers and has called on market associations to cooperate with its enforcement efforts.
THE TRADE FAIR COMPLEX’S POSITION
The complex’s management said it would support NAFDAC’s efforts and urged traders to comply with regulatory standards. It warned that any trader found selling counterfeit products would face sanctions, including eviction from the market.
WHY IT MATTERS
Counterfeit drinks and food products are a public health hazard. They can contain harmful substances, lack proper regulatory oversight and undermine legitimate businesses.
The Trade Fair Complex’s decision to publicly back NAFDAC sends a signal that market associations are willing to cooperate in the fight against counterfeit products.
