Pascal Gabriel Dozie, a celebrated Nigerian entrepreneur and founder of Diamond Bank Plc, has passed away at the age of 85. He died on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, just a day before his 86th birthday. Dozie was also the pioneer Chairman of MTN Nigeria, contributing significantly to the growth of telecommunications in Nigeria. He is survived by his wife, Chinyere, and five children.

Born on April 9, 1939, in Egbu village, Owerri, Imo State, Dozie was raised in a Catholic household. He pursued his education at prestigious institutions, earning a degree in Economics from the London School of Economics and a master’s in Administrative Science from City University London. His career began as an economist in the UK before returning to Nigeria to establish the African Development Consulting Group (ADCG) and later founding Diamond Bank in 1990. Under his leadership, Diamond Bank grew into one of Nigeria’s leading financial institutions before merging with Access Bank.
Dozie’s contributions extended beyond banking; he served as Chairman of Pan-Atlantic University and held stakes in industries like MTN Group. Honored with the National Award of the Order of the Niger (OON), his legacy is defined by visionary leadership and dedication to Nigeria’s economic development.
