Lagos Commissioner Honoured as REDA 2025 Stakeholders Tackle Real Estate Future

The Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development was honoured with a performance award at the Real Estate Discussions and Awards (REDA) 2025, held at Radisson Blu, Ikeja. The event, themed “Back to the Basics – The Future of Real Estate,” brought together industry stakeholders to discuss sustainable development and challenges in the real estate sector in Nigeria and Africa.

In his keynote address, the Commissioner underscored town planning as foundational to real estate growth and highlighted the Lagos State Government’s proactive regulatory approach amidst escalating investments. He detailed the Ministry’s roles, including policy formulation for layout approvals, planning permits, enforcement of planning laws, land use regulation, affordable housing policies, and urban regeneration projects. He emphasized the importance of “building right,” encouraging stakeholders to support green building initiatives focused on sustainable energy and materials, and advised planning for property disposal.

Addressing critical challenges, the Commissioner pointed to rapid urbanisation, overpopulation, land scarcity, regulatory compliance, environmental concerns, and affordability gaps, urging collective action. The Permanent Secretary, Engr. Oluwole Sotire, highlighted the role of regulations and ongoing infrastructure projects like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, Lagos Rail lines by LAMATA, and new waterways ferries. Other notable speakers included Dr. Amstrong Takang, CEO of Ministry of Finance Incorporated, and Hon. Moyosore Adebanjo, Chairman of Onigbongbo LCDA, who also contributed to discussions on sector growth and reform.
