MAIDUGURI — The United States Special Operations Command Africa (SOCAFRICA) has described the integration of US special forces into Nigeria’s counter-insurgency framework as a global model for effective military partnership.
The Commander of SOCAFRICA, Major General Claude Tudor, made the declaration on Thursday during a high-level working visit to the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force (JTF) North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), at the Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Leading a high-powered American military delegation, Major General Tudor stated that the long-standing cooperation, mutual trust, and shared commitment between the United States and Nigeria remain vital pillars for restoring permanent peace and normalcy to the conflict-affected Lake Chad basin and the wider West African sub-region.
A Blueprint for Regional Security
During the bilateral strategic session, the US Commander commended the operational progress made by the Nigerian military in neutralizing terrorist networks. He expressed appreciation for the transparent, direct engagement with the Theatre Command, which allowed for a firsthand assessment of ongoing operations.
”The United States remains unyielding in its commitment to supporting Nigeria,” Tudor remarked, emphasizing that future engagements will feature enhanced collaboration in advanced military strategy and specialized tactical operations.
Strengthening Kinetic and Non-Kinetic Responses
Responding, the Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, expressed deep appreciation to the United States Government and the SOCAFRICA leadership for their unwavering support and full integration into the command’s operational matrix.
Major General Abubakar revealed that the tactical synergy with US Special Operations has significantly amplified Nigeria’s success rate in both kinetic combat operations and non-kinetic community engagement strategies.
However, to completely tip the scales against remnants of insurgent groups, the Theatre Commander advocated for upgraded technical capabilities.
”Our collaboration with SOCAFRICA has drastically strengthened our operational effectiveness. Moving forward, the induction of additional technological support and specialized capabilities will be critical to sustaining this momentum,” Major General Abubakar stated.
Renewed Strategic Compact
The high-level meeting concluded with both military powers reaffirming their defense pact.
With emerging security threats evolving across the Sahel, the Nigerian and US delegations pledged to deepen intelligence sharing, strengthen frontline military capacity, and dismantle terror networks through highly coordinated, technology-driven strategic efforts aimed at guaranteeing long-term regional stability.
