A young medical doctor, Dr. Vwaere Diaso, has tragically lost her life in a horrifying elevator crash at the General Hospital in Odan, Lagos.
Dr. Diaso, who was set to complete her housemanship in just two weeks, was on her way to collect her meal from a dispatch ride when the unfortunate event occurred.
The elevator, which had been reportedly faulty for some time, crashed from the 10th floor to the ground floor, leading to the fatal accident. She was said to have suffered severe injuries as a result of the crash.
It was said to have taken about an hour for the victim to be evacuated from the crashed elevator, after which she was rushed to the emergency room where she died.
The young doctor had completed her medical degree at Babcock University.
Heartbroken friends and colleagues have alleged that the hospital management had neglected to repair the faulty elevator despite being aware of the issue, and they believe this negligence ultimately cost Dr. Vwaere Diaso her life.
In 2020, the medical guild tweeted about the elevator at the hospital, calling the attention of the Lagos state government to it.
“The doctors quarters at General hospital Lagos has 10 floors. It has a non-functional elevator and no running water,” the tweet reads.
“Doctors who live on the 10th floor including pregnant women climb the stairs multiple times daily.
“Are we going to wait till someone dies before things are done properly?”
Sadly the faulty elevator has taken the life of a promising doctor.
The story has since generated a lot of reaction on social media with many lambasting the management of the hospital for negligence.
