Trio Nabbed as Police Rescue Victims in Ondo Forest Ambush

​Joint security operatives in Ondo State have dismantled a notorious kidnapping syndicate, rescuing two victims and recovering ₦1.5 million in suspected ransom money.

​The successful operation, executed late Friday night along the Ifira–Idoani axis in Isua-Akoko, followed a meticulous intelligence-led surveillance. Operatives from the Isua Police Division teamed up with the Ondo State Security Network, known as Amotekun, and local hunters to stage a deep-forest ambush.

​According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, a gang of four heavily armed suspects emerged from the thick canopy around 11:30 p.m. to collect ransom. A fierce gun battle ensued when the hoodlum opened fire on the security team. Outgunned by the tactical superiority of the joint forces, the criminals were forced to retreat, leaving behind their captives.

​The rescued victims—identified as Mr. Owolabi Patrick and Asoto Dada—escaped the ordeal unhurt. They were later led to the police station, where they positively identified the arrested suspects: Abdullahi Abubakar, Ibrahim Abubakar, and Oseni Abubakar, all hailing from the Akunnu community in Akoko North-East.

​Authorities also impounded a Bajaj motorcycle at the scene, which the victims tied directly to the execution of their abduction.

​The State Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case file to the Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad in Akure. Investigators have been charged with dismantling the wider criminal network and tracking down fleeing members of the syndicate to ensure total prosecution.
