UYO — A wave of grief has hit the All Progressives Congress (APC) fold in Akwa Ibom State following a fatal road crash along Oron Road, Uyo, which claimed the life of one person and left several others injured.
The tragic incident occurred on Friday as a transport bus carrying female political supporters collided head-on with a Toyota Hilux vehicle. The victims were part of a mobilization group heading to a high-profile presidential campaign rally headlined by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alongside Vice President Kashim Shettima, who had arrived in the state capital ahead of the event.
According to eyewitness accounts, the impact severely mangled the passenger bus, trapping several occupants in the wreckage before swift intervention from commuters and emergency bystanders who rushed to extract the victims.
The injured have been rushed to nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment, while security and traffic control teams worked to clear the gridlock triggered by the incident along the busy artery. Party officials and local authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding the identities of the casualties as security agencies continue to assess the scene.
