President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday conferred the highest National Honour of Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR) on President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The former Lagos State governor becomes the 16th person to be given the GCFR Honour following in the footsteps of Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo, Shehu Shagari, Olusegun Obasanjo, Abdulsalami Abubakar, Ibrahim Babangida, Ernest Shonekan, Sani Abacha, Umaru Yar’Adua, Goodluck Jonathan and Moshood Abiola.
President Buhari also conferred the national honour of Grand Commander of the Order of Niger (GCON) to the Vice President-elect, Kashim Shettima.
The investiture which took place at the State House Conference Center in Abuja, is part of a series of events lined up for the May 29 inauguration ceremony.
The event also marked the official handover of transition documents from President Buhari to the incoming President.
