On Friday, President Bola Tinubu announced Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Kenya, Burundi, and the Philippines. He emphasized the need for coordinated action to tackle economic challenges within African nations.
This statement was made during the presentation of Letters of Credence by newly-appointed ambassadors to Nigeria at the State House in Abuja.
Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, revealed details of the discussions, which involved Burundi’s Ambassador Edouard Nduwimana, the Philippines’ Ambassador Mersole Mellejor, and Kenya’s High Commissioner Isaac Parashina.
President Tinubu highlighted Nigeria’s appreciation for warm relations with these countries and reiterated Nigeria’s support for democratic values and economic opportunities.

In discussions with Ambassador Mellejor, Tinubu spoke about Nigeria’s efforts to expand natural gas production and encouraged Filipino investors to explore opportunities in Nigeria. Mellejor recognized Nigeria’s leadership in Africa and expressed a desire to strengthen economic ties.
In his meeting with Ambassador Nduwimana, Tinubu extended condolences to East African nations affected by recent floods and stressed the importance of collective action to address environmental challenges.
Nduwimana sought Nigeria’s support for relief efforts and Nigerian investments in Burundi’s solid minerals and oil sectors.
During talks with High Commissioner Parashina, Tinubu acknowledged the collaborative efforts between Nigeria and Kenya in counter-terrorism and other areas. He emphasized the need to promote Africa’s development across various sectors.
Parashina conveyed President William Ruto’s interest in a high-level visit to further strengthen bilateral relations and address shared challenges such as terrorism and climate change.
