The slogan, “Tinubu Must Go,” reverberated across Ilorin Road in Sokoto metropolis on Wednesday as supporters of the African Democratic Congress gathered for the party’s presidential campaign flag-off ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Tinubu Must Go chants reflected growing opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s administration and the party’s push to mobilise support for a change of government, ValidViewNetwork reports.
THE RALLY
The rally attracted supporters from different parts of Sokoto State, who gathered to express solidarity with the party and its presidential candidate, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.
Many of the supporters used the gathering to express dissatisfaction with the Tinubu-led administration, citing the prevailing economic hardship and persistent security challenges confronting Nigerians.
The rally also featured opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as the ADC intensified efforts to strengthen its political presence in the North-West.
The repeated chants of “Tinubu Must Go” underscored the party’s attempt to turn public discontent into political support ahead of the 2027 polls.
THE DELAY
As of the time of filing the report, the ADC presidential campaign train was yet to arrive at the venue after departing the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport, Sokoto.
The delay was reportedly due to the large crowd of supporters gathered along the route from the airport to the rally venue .
WHY IT MATTERS
The Sokoto rally is a signal that the opposition is beginning to mobilise in the North-West, a region that will be critical in the 2027 election.
The presence of Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi, two of the most prominent political figures in northern Nigeria, underscores the seriousness of the ADC’s challenge to the ruling APC.
The chant of “Tinubu Must Go” is not just a slogan. It is a statement of intent.
For Tinubu, the rally is a warning. The North-West, which he won comfortably in 2023, is no longer a safe haven. The opposition is coming. And the battle for the North has begun. ValidViewNetwork reports.
