President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been conferred with one of Saint Lucia’s highest national honours, the Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Lucia (KCOSL), by the Government of Saint Lucia. The prestigious award was approved by the Governor General of Saint Lucia in recognition of Tinubu’s exceptional leadership across Africa, his commitment to South-South cooperation, and his efforts to strengthen cultural, historical, and diplomatic ties between Africa and the Caribbean.

The KCOSL is the second-highest rank in Saint Lucia’s premier national honours system, established in 1985, surpassed only by the Grand Cross. It is typically reserved for individuals who have rendered distinguished service of national or international significance to the island nation.
President Tinubu is currently on a historic state visit to Saint Lucia, the first by a Nigerian leader in 27 years, as part of a broader diplomatic tour of the Caribbean and South America. During the visit, he addressed a special joint session of the Saint Lucian Parliament and held high-level meetings with the Heads of Government of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), focusing on deepening economic partnerships and cultural solidarity.

The honour reflects Nigeria’s renewed global diplomacy under Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at repositioning Africa’s largest democracy as a leader in global and cultural diplomacy.
This accolade places President Tinubu among a select group of African leaders to receive this distinguished title, underscoring the growing embrace of Nigeria’s re-engagement policy in the Caribbean region.
