Thai immigration authorities, working in tandem with the Office of the Narcotics Control Board, have dismantled a narcotics distribution network in Bangkok, resulting in the apprehension of three Nigerian nationals. The high-stakes operation yielded approximately 103 grammes of cocaine alongside adulteration equipment.
According to Pol Maj Gen Kongchat Leangsomsap, commander of Immigration Division 1, the crackdown unfolded following an undercover intelligence-led operation in the capital’s Nawamin district.
Undercover Sting and Apartment Raid
The first phase of the operation took place on October 16, 2026, when a 42-year-old Nigerian suspect arranged to sell narcotics to an undercover operative. Law enforcement officers intercepted the suspect immediately after the transaction and recovered marked currency.
Under tactical interrogation, the primary suspect confessed that the illicit substance originated from a 43-year-old compatriot residing nearby. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, officers raided the second suspect’s apartment, uncovering roughly 101 grammes of pure cocaine.
Investigators also seized blenders, measuring cups, and substantial quantities of blackboard chalk and baking soda. During questioning, the older suspect allegedly admitted to utilizing household cutting agents to dilute the narcotics, a dangerous practice intended to inflate volume and maximize profit margins.
Expanding Net and Visa Crackdown
As authorities combed through localized gathering spots frequented by expatriates in Nawamin, they detained a third Nigerian national, aged 21, at a local restaurant. Checks revealed that he was residing in the country illegally on an expired visa.
The primary suspects now face severe legal action, including charges of unauthorized distribution and possession of Category 2 narcotics with intent to sell, while the third suspect faces immediate deportation proceedings for immigration violations. Thai security agencies have pledged to intensify surveillance on transnational syndicates operating within major metropolitan entertainment and residential districts.
