Gombe, Nigeria – In a rare and dramatic turn of events, a middle-aged man on Monday, June 2, 2025, voluntarily walked into the Gombe Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to confess to years of elaborate employment fraud, citing an overwhelming fear of the anti-graft agency.

The unexpected surrender unfolded around 1:00 PM when the suspect, identified as Idris Adamu, presented himself at the EFCC office, specifically requesting an audience with the Acting Zonal Director, Deputy Commander of the EFCC, DCE Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad. Adamu, seemingly driven by a newfound conscience, declared his intention to “confess some hidden truths about the crimes he had committed in the past.”
During his confession to DCE Sa’ad, Adamu starkly admitted, “I came to repent of my sins and to confess to the EFCC. In the past, I have obtained the aggregate sum of N9 million through my bank account from different individuals in the guise of offering them employment opportunities in Federal Government agencies, which was false. I have changed, but I am afraid of the EFCC.”
DCE Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad, upon hearing the extraordinary confession, commended Adamu for his decision to come forward. He promptly directed that the self-confessed suspect be transferred to the investigation department for a thorough and comprehensive inquiry into the details of his alleged impersonation and obtaining money by false pretense.
This unusual incident highlights the EFCC’s growing reputation and the psychological impact of its enforcement efforts, even on those who have evaded justice.
Authorities are expected to delve deeper into Adamu’s confession to uncover the full scope of his activities and identify the victims of his fraudulent schemes.
