In line with its mandate of keeping the public constantly informed about government activities, the Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, at the second edition of the Agency’s monthly joint security press briefing, said Nigeria’s security and regulatory agencies sustained a high operational tempo throughout August.

On coordinated military pressure and police operations against terrorism, Issa-onilu revealed that the Nigerian Army conducted 261 operations nationwide, while the police conducted 210 operations, resulting in 1,950 arrests and the rescue of 141 kidnap victims. These operations, he noted, demonstrate the agencies’ commitment to tackling crimes and insecurity in the country.

Onilu further revealed that the EFCC secured 588 convictions and recovered significant sums in both local and foreign currencies, underscoring its continued efforts against financial crimes. He also noted major strides by the NDLEA, which made 944 arrests and seized over 66,255 kg of narcotics in its ongoing fight against drug trafficking.

According to the DG, the NDLEA also rehabilitated 854 users, showcasing its comprehensive approach to addressing drug abuse, stressing that these collective efforts demonstrate the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens and promoting a sense of security and stability.

He assured that the NOA will continue to simplify complex security cases and tactical actions of security and response agencies into clear and accessible updates to help Nigerians better understand the government’s ongoing efforts to keep the country safe.

The press briefing was attended by representatives from major security and response agencies, including the Army, Navy, NIS, Police, Customs, ONSA, NAFDAC, FMINO, Correctional Service, NEMA, NDLEA, FRSC, DSS, NFIU, and Defence Headquarters.
