Schoolboy Dies After Flood Sweeps Away Bus in Awka

A school journey ended in tragedy for six-year-old Success Ezenwafor after floodwaters swept him away when the vehicle conveying him and other pupils became trapped in Awka, Anambra State.

ValidViewNetwork reports that Governor Chukwuma Soludo has mourned the young pupil of UNIZIK Primary School following the incident.

The vehicle became trapped in surging floodwaters along the Nibo-Isiagu Road while the children were being taken to school.

Seven pupils and two adults were rescued and taken to hospital, but Success was swept away. His body was later recovered.

ValidViewNetwork gathered that a family source described the boy as brave and said he reportedly broke one of the vehicle’s windows, creating an escape route that helped other occupants get out.

That detail has made the tragedy even more painful. The incident has also renewed questions about flood-prone roads, school transportation and emergency preparedness during heavy rainfall.

Flooding becomes deadly when drainage, roads, warning systems and emergency response fail at the same time.

For Success’s family, however, the debate is painfully simple. Their son left home for school and did not return. ValidViewNetwork reports.
