INEC Awaits ₦371bn as Election Preparations Enter Critical Phase

A reported ₦371 billion funding gap has emerged as a fresh concern around Nigeria’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.

ValidViewNetwork reports that INEC’s projected budget for the polls stands at ₦873.78 billion, with about ₦500 billion reportedly released so far.

The outstanding balance is required for logistics, procurement, personnel, technology and other preparations for the election.

INEC has warned that sustained funding is necessary for effective planning, particularly because electoral procurement and logistics cannot always be completed at short notice.

The concern is particularly significant with the election timetable already drawing closer.

The funding gap does not by itself mean the elections cannot hold. Its immediate significance is that INEC says predictable funding is necessary to allow the commission to complete its preparations without avoidable disruption. ValidViewNetwork reports.
