Paul University Suspends Staff Member Following Sexual Misconduct Allegations

​AWKA — Management at Paul University, Awka, has announced the indefinite suspension of a staff member, Ven. Cornelius C. Eze, following grave allegations of sexual misconduct. The action comes in the wake of a viral social media video that purportedly showed the lecturer, who also serves as an Anglican priest, involved in a sexual encounter within his office.

​The incident, which reportedly triggered significant unrest among the student body, drew immediate attention to the institution on July 14, 2026. According to the university’s spokesperson, Rev’d Godsplan Onukwufor, the administration acted swiftly to maintain law and order by involving security agencies to investigate the matter.

​In a formal statement, the university clarified that the suspension is a preliminary administrative step, intended to remain in effect throughout both the internal disciplinary process and any external investigations conducted by law enforcement. The institution emphasized that it does not condone sexual harassment, abuse of office, or any conduct that compromises the safety and dignity of its community.

​”Paul University is a faith-based institution founded on the principles of integrity, discipline, moral uprightness, and respect for the dignity of humanity,” Rev’d Onukwufor stated. “Any member of staff or student found culpable of violating the university’s regulations or the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria will be dealt with in accordance with due process”.

​The controversy gained national attention earlier this week when the viral footage—which allegedly captured the staff member fleeing his office through a window after being confronted by students—circulated online. While initial social media speculation incorrectly linked the incident to Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), management at UNIZIK officially refuted those claims, leading to the subsequent confirmation of the staff member’s identity by Paul University.
