Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian of God, the largest church in West Africa, has criticized the Federal Government for its decision to redesign the naira.
The renowned preacher lamented the naira’s declining purchasing value.
He questioned why the FG intended to redesign the naira at a time when people are in need of food and money.
Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has reacted to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s intention to redesign the N200, N500, and N1,000 notes considering the country’s soaring inflation.
Speaking during RCCG’s Holy Ghost Service on Friday, November 4, with the theme, ‘Let It Rain’ Adeboye said: “You know what’s going on in our country. It doesn’t even make sense anymore. Our naira now is not even worth the paper it is printed on.”

“And while people are hungry, trying to find enough money to buy bread to eat, our bosses are thinking of making the naira more beautiful, even if it can’t buy bread, at least, it will look beautiful. Oh Lord, have mercy.”, the clergy added.
“We have problems in the land now. Things seem to be getting funnier and funnier. If you don’t learn to laugh in Nigeria now, you will develop hypertension.”
He further said, “God must be merciful unto us. We will have to hold on to Him and say, ‘Please help.’ Do you know that up till now, and this is November, Daddy hasn’t told me yet that there’s going to be an election next year.”
“We continue of course as if there’s going to be; I am saying that, Adeboye, I am not talking of other people, God has not told me yet. He may tell me tomorrow, I don’t know; but as of this moment that I am sitting before you, He hasn’t told me whether or not there will be an election next year.”
ValidViewNetwork reports that the clergy emphasized the “YET” and stated that anything can happen the next day. He allayed the fears of the people and charged Nigerians particularly his children to keep pleading for the mercy of God.
The octogenarian further said “Of course, as usual, anybody who comes to me and he says, “pray for me,” I will pray for them. That’s my duty but it is up to God to answer. I am not trying to frighten you; I am not telling you that I know something secret that you don’t know; I am not a prophet I am just a pastor; but I am your Pastor. We need to pray. So, I expect to see all of you on Friday the 2nd of December; come ready to pray.”
Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, had last week announced the proposal by the apex bank to start issuing the newly designed N200, N500, and N1,000 notes on December 15, 2022, with the intention of entirely replacing the current notes on January 31, 2023. There have been diverse opinions on the move to redesign the naira.
