‘My Period Stained Me’: Ondo ‘Missing’ Mother Explains Hotel Stay, Blasts Critics

​AKURE – Mrs. Olatunde Funke, the 42-year-old mother of three whose sudden disappearance recently threw the Ilara-Mokin community into a frenzy, has finally broken her silence. In a defiant address, Funke dismissed the public outcry surrounding her discovery in an Ikare-Akoko hotel, declaring that she owes an apology to no one except the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) Worldwide.

​The saga, which began as a desperate search for a “kidnapped” victim, took a dramatic turn when police tracked her mobile signals to a hotel room. While rumors of an illicit affair with a 55-year-old man have since dominated social media, Funke insists the reality was a “personal trial” fueled by biological emergency and embarrassment.

​The ‘Emergency’ at the Hotel

​Clarifying the circumstances that led her to the facility, Funke claimed her presence in Ikare-Akoko—a town she says she was unfamiliar with—was unplanned. According to her, she was forced to seek immediate shelter after her menstrual cycle unexpectedly started, staining her clothing.

​”I found myself in a town I didn’t know. I was forced to seek shelter when my clothes became stained. A commercial motorcyclist directed me to the hotel so I could clean up,” she explained.

​She maintained that she remained isolated in the room, requesting only water and avoiding public view due to her “stained condition” and a state of mental distress.

​The ‘Old Man’ Mystery Solved?

​Addressing the 55-year-old man arrested alongside her, Funke vehemently denied any romantic involvement. She explained that the man was a contact obtained through a former tenant, whom she reached out to solely for humanitarian assistance.

​”I gave him money to buy basic necessities—sanitary pads and slippers—because I couldn’t go out like that. That was the last time I saw him until the police arrived,” she stated.

​The Mistake That Sparked a State-Wide Hunt

​Funke admitted that her decision to switch off her phone was the catalyst for the panic. As family members feared the worst, security operatives were deployed, eventually using the “helper” to track her location.

​”The police just came and said, ‘Madam, you’re under arrest.’ I told them I wasn’t kidnapped, but they didn’t listen,” she recalled.

​‘My Name Has Been Tarnished’

​Despite the resources expended on her search and the trauma caused to her family, Funke remains unapologetic to the general public. Her regret, she says, is reserved exclusively for her religious community.

​”I had to apologize to the Celestial Church of Christ worldwide. My name has been tarnished, and it affects the image of the church. I owe them an apology… I do not owe any other person an apology,” she concluded.

​While the police have concluded their initial intervention, the case continues to stir debate across Ondo State, with many questioning the logic of a multi-day disappearance over a wardrobe malfunction. For Funke, however, the matter is a private cross she has already carried.
