The Ondo State Government, under Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has addressed recent protests concerning the recruitment of teachers through the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). Contrary to initial reports, those demonstrating were not legitimately recruited teachers but applicants who fell victim to a sophisticated scam involving fake employment letters.
These fraudulent letters were issued by unidentified scammers who deceived job seekers during the recruitment process by demanding payment for supposed appointment letters. During verification through biometric authentication, over 2,000 genuine teachers were confirmed and have already commenced duties in both primary and secondary schools across the state.
Governor Aiyedatiwa has directed SUBEB management to engage directly with the victims of the scam to understand their grievances. Additionally, a special committee has been set up to investigate the scandal thoroughly. Disciplinary measures have already been taken against three insiders of SUBEB suspected of colluding with external fraudsters to perpetrate the deceit.
This fraudulent activity has been a significant cloud over the recent recruitment exercise that officially saw over 2,100 qualified teachers employed to address shortages in public schools. The government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring transparency and integrity in the recruitment process and vowed to uphold educational standards in Ondo State.
Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, emphasized that the government remains committed to protecting the interests of qualified teachers and safeguarding the integrity of the education sector in Ondo State.
