Lagos NURTW Chieftain ‘Shamelon’ Arraigned for Murder of Dispatch Rider

The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, arraigned Samsideen Oladiti, a prominent chieftain of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Lagos, popularly known as Shamelon, before Ebute Metta Magistrate Court 2. On August 27, 2025, Oladiti and several others allegedly assaulted a dispatch rider, Imam Ramon, on Lewis Street, Lagos Island, after accusing him of scratching Oladiti’s vehicle. Witnesses and video evidence show that Oladiti repeatedly beat Ramon with fists and also used a ring and kicked him multiple times, culminating in serious head injuries. Ramon was rushed to Lagos Island General Hospital but succumbed to blood clots in the brain on September 17, 2025, from the sustained injuries.

Additionally, on September 17, 2025, Oladiti allegedly assaulted another dispatch rider, Omale Samuel, on Lagos Island, using a helmet and fists to inflict serious bodily harm. Samuel was hospitalized and is currently receiving medical treatment.

Court Proceedings and Status

Oladiti, 55, pleaded not guilty to all charges during the arraignment. The magistrate ordered his remand in Ikoyi Correctional Centre pending further legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The case was adjourned to October 28, 2025, for continuation. Defense bail applications were denied due to the seriousness of the charges.
