ADO EKITI – The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the June 20, 2026, governorship election, Dr. Wole Oluyede, has vowed to end Ekiti State’s perennial electricity crisis by implementing an aggressive Independent Power Project (IPP) framework.
Speaking in Ado Ekiti on Sunday, Oluyede argued that stable electricity is the primary catalyst required to transition the state from a “civil service economy” to an industrial hub. He criticized previous administrations for providing “superficial” fixes, such as the distribution of transformers, which he noted does not address the fundamental lack of generation and distribution capacity.
“During campaigns, some make promises about electricity, but after winning, they return with transformers,” Oluyede stated. “How does that translate to actual power supply? Achieving stable power requires the intentionality of a willing leader. If independent electricity generation is possible in places like Abia, it is certainly possible in Ekiti.”
A Business-First Approach
Oluyede, an investor and employer of labor within the state, emphasized that his administration would create a “business-friendly environment” backed by modern legislation to attract credible private sector investors. He noted that once the bottleneck of power is removed, Ekiti citizens—many of whom are highly skilled—will have the autonomy to create jobs and reduce their reliance on government patronage.
The PDP flagbearer further assured the electorate that his power plan is anchored on:
1.Transparency and Accountability: Ensuring value for every naira spent on infrastructure.
2.Affordability: Creating a pricing model that encourages local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to flourish.
3.Economic Productivity: Moving the state toward self-sufficiency and reducing its dependence on federal allocations.
As the June 20 poll approaches, Oluyede urged voters to support a vision centered on “power, productivity, and prosperity,” promising that his administration would prioritize tangible results over political optics.
