The newly crowned Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja Arusa I, has officially withdrawn from active partisan politics, affirming that his allegiance now lies solely with the people of Ibadan and the broader community he serves. Speaking on Tuesday, September 30, during a congregational visit by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and a delegation of political leaders from the African Democratic Congress and other parties, Oba Ladoja made a definitive statement distancing himself from his past political engagements.
Addressing the visitors at his Bodija residence, the monarch declared, “I’m not one of you again. I am the Olubadan of Ibadanland. I am for everybody now; I am not a politician anymore. Welcome to my house.” He reinforced his commitment to serving the entire populace, transcending former political affiliations or divides. “Now that I am the Olubadan, my focus is solely on Ibadanland. I will serve my people—Ibadan people, Oyo State, Africa, and the world at large. I will rely on your support and counsel,” he stated.

Oba Ladoja reflected on his political journey with notable figures, recalling their shared experiences within the Social Democratic Party (SDP), exile periods, and tenure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). When forging his distinct identity, he moved to the Accord Party, which gained prominence in the region. However, he expressed skepticism about politicians’ tendencies to return to politics, emphasizing his finality in stepping away.
His resolve echoes the counsel of various religious leaders who advocate that leadership must promote justice and fairness as the foremost mark of governance. With a regal demeanor, he reaffirmed his vision of justice and equitable leadership, promising to unite all under his throne regardless of political or religious backgrounds.
The visit by Atiku Abubakar and other political dignitaries—including former governors Nasir El-Rufai and Liyel Imoke, former Senate President Iyorcha Ayu, and others—was both a formal congratulation on Oba Ladoja’s ascension and an affirmation of respect for his new role. Atiku, who expressed regret for missing the coronation due to protocol logistics, praised the monarch’s dedication and long-standing public service, hoping for a prosperous and peaceful reign for Ibadanland.

Oba Ladoja’s transition from a seasoned politician and former governor of Oyo State to the traditional throne marks a significant moment in the political and cultural landscape of Ibadan. His declaration underscores a new chapter where leadership is rooted in tradition, justice, and unity beyond partisan lines.
This new role positions him as a stabilizing figure in Ibadan and Oyo State, bridging politics, culture, and community service in a unique manner expected of the Olubadan of Ibadanland .
