The Ogun State Police Command has launched a sweeping, statewide enforcement operation targeting vehicles with covered, defaced, unauthorized, or missing registration number plates.
The security crackdown aligns with a direct mandate from the Inspector-General of Police. It is designed to eliminate the anonymity that criminal elements frequently exploit to commit crimes and evade detection across the state.
Strict Directives to Impound Offending Vehicles
The Commissioner of Police for the Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, has ordered all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Tactical Team Leaders to strictly enforce the directive. Officers have been instructed to impound non-compliant vehicles immediately and initiate comprehensive investigations into their owners or operators.
The enforcement sweep targets a wide range of violations, including:
- Completely covered or obscured plates
- Defaced or concealed registration numbers
- Fake, altered, or improperly issued plates
- Vehicles operating with no license plates at all
According to the command, the only vehicles exempted from this enforcement are those officially authorized to display flags in accordance with established state and federal protocols.
Balancing Security with Professionalism
Recognizing that the exercise might raise concerns among commuters, police leadership emphasized that the operation is strictly aimed at tracking criminal suspects and fortifying Ogun State’s security architecture, rather than disrupting daily life.
”This exercise is not intended to inconvenience law-abiding citizens, but to enhance the capacity of law enforcement agencies to identify vehicles and investigate crimes effectively,” the Command stated.
In anticipation of public scrutiny, CP Ojajuni has directed all field officers to maintain the highest levels of professionalism, courtesy, and human rights standards throughout the enforcement process.
