Ogogo’s Daughters Join Gen Z Mobilisation for Yayi in Abeokuta

The daughters of late Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, have publicly declared support for the 2027 governorship ambition of All Progressives Congress candidate Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.

Lima and Kira Taiwo made the declarations on Saturday, September 26, 2026, in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, during a community clean-up exercise organised by the Gen Z for Yayi support group.

The setting matters.

This was not a condolence visit, family gathering or private meeting.

It was a political mobilisation activity organised around Yayi’s candidacy, with participants wearing branded T-shirts and the exercise promoted on social media under the caption, “EGBA YAYI, Outside with purpose, One community at a time. ABEOKUTA Today.”

Videos from the exercise were subsequently shared on the Gen Z for Yayi Instagram account, providing the clearest evidence of what the sisters said and where they said it.Lima: “We’re here to show our support”

In one of the videos, Lima connected the clean-up exercise to youth participation and community responsibility before expressly declaring support for Yayi.

“As Gen Z’s, we’re used to complaining about what our government is doing for us. But the question should be, what are we doing for the place we call home?”

She said the participants were not merely talking about change but were attempting to contribute directly to their community.

Lima then made the political purpose of the gathering explicit.“So we’re here to show our support to Senator Adeola Olamilekan Yayi. This is all of us coming here to show our support, seeing our community and being the change ourselves. Yayi ni joor.”

Her statement therefore went beyond general participation in a sanitation exercise. She expressly identified the event with support for Adeola’s governorship bid.

Kira also declares support

Kira made a separate declaration in another video from the same exercise. Introducing herself as Shakirat Olawunmi Taiwo Omokulodo, she said:

“So this is our own way of showing support to the incoming governor of Ogun State, Senator Adeola Olamilekon Yayi.”

The two sisters therefore independently made direct statements of support in separate videos from the same Abeokuta exercise.

That distinction is important because the development is different from the appreciation letter the family had earlier issued to Yayi following Ogogo’s illness and death.

Why the support has a personal history

The sisters’ appearance at the Yayi-linked event also comes against the backdrop of their late father’s relationship with the senator.

Yayi had visited Ogogo’s family in Ilaro after the actor’s death and disclosed that, had he won the 2027 governorship election, he had intended to appoint the actor as Special Adviser on Tourism and Culture with cabinet rank.

Yayi described Ogogo as an elder brother and linked the proposed role to the actor’s experience in the entertainment industry and his knowledge of Yoruba culture and tradition.

“I told God that if it is destined for me to be governor, my elder brother Ogogo will be my Special Adviser on Tourism and Culture. My plan was he will be a Special Adviser that is a cabinet member.”

The statement became particularly significant after Ogogo’s death because some supporters subsequently called for Yayi to consider appointing one of the actor’s daughters to the position originally discussed for their father if he eventually forms a government.

There is, however, no indication in the sisters’ September 26 statements that either daughter was promised the position. Their comments, as captured in the videos, were declarations of political support and participation in a community exercise.

The timing is also significant

Ogogo died on August 23, 2026, aged 66, meaning the Abeokuta appearance came roughly five weeks after his death.

His death had generated tributes across the entertainment industry and from political figures, while Yayi had maintained a visible relationship with the family during the actor’s illness and after his death.

Earlier in August, during the family’s public effort to find treatment options for Ogogo, Yayi was also publicly identified by members of the family as one of those who provided financial assistance for his medical care.

The September 26 event therefore adds a new dimension to that relationship: the actor’s daughters have now moved from acknowledging Yayi’s support for their father and family to openly associating themselves with his 2027 political campaign.

What the Abeokuta appearance establishes

The evidence from the event establishes three things.

First, Lima explicitly said she was at the exercise to support Yayi.

Second, Kira made a separate declaration of support for Yayi in another video from the same exercise.

Third, the declarations took place at an event organised by Gen Z for Yayi, rather than at a neutral community programme.

The political significance of the development will ultimately depend on how much influence celebrity and family associations have on voters, particularly younger voters.

The sisters’ participation, however, is no longer a matter of speculation. Their own words at the Abeokuta event provide direct evidence of their position.

For Yayi’s campaign, the appearance also links a well-known Yoruba entertainment family to its youth mobilisation efforts in Ogun.

For the sisters, it represents a public political position taken weeks after the death of their father, whose own relationship with the APC candidate had become part of the political narrative surrounding the 2027 Ogun election.
