Nurse caught sleeping with stepson, blasted at sentencing

A nurse who was caught sexually assaulting her 15-year-old stepson has been described as an “incestuous paedophile” by the boy’s mother.

Alexis Von Yates, 34, was jailed for two years on Tuesday after she pleaded no contest to a charge of lewd and lascivious battery. Court documents previously revealed Von Yates’ husband walked in on his wife with his teenage stepson on the living room couch in July last year.

At the sentencing hearing, the mother of the boy admitted Von Yates’ actions make her “physically ill” and described the nurse as a “coward”. The mum told the court her son is now undergoing therapy and claimed his father had spoken to him only once in the last year.

She said: “I will be by his side to support him, just as I always have. But it is not fair that I am the only one left to pick up the pieces of the mess Alexis created. I am angry, I am hurt, at times it makes me physically ill. But I, like [my son] will rise above.

“Despite all of the trauma inflicted upon him, he still has a beautiful life to look forward to. A life full of love, hope and endless possibilities.” She added: “As for you Alexis, you have shown absolutely no remorse or accountability for your despicable actions.”

The mum went on to say: “But there is something you will never escape, the deep well emptiness inside of you. The lack of compassion, or love, or care. You systemically manipulated, groomed, and sexually abused a child. Through your actions, and through your conduct since you have proven to be a coward.

“There is nowhere you can go to escape the truth. For the rest of your life the world will see you for exactly what you are. An incestuous paedophile who will forever only be remembered for what she took from a child.”

Von Yates simply responded “no comment” when she was asked if she wanted to make a statement to the court. She was sentenced to two years in prison, followed by two years of community control and 10 years of sex offender probation. Von Yates will also have to complete 200 hours of community service, cover court costs and pay fines.

According to previous court documents, Von Yates put her two children to bed and then hung out with her 15-year-old stepson on the living room couch. The boy told police during investigations in August that he had been in Florida on vacation to visit his father over the summer and slept with his stepmum while his father was at work.

The pair reportedly smoked a THC vape, played video games and watched movies. The documents said the boy told police how at around 1am, Von Yates put on a film before seducing the child further by declaring the movie was boring and stating how “horny” she was because “she had not had sex in two weeks and she was on her period”.As the boy started kissing his stepmum’s neck, she told him: “I wish you were 18, because you’re not old enough.” Von Yates is said to have then “kicked off” her underwear.

The document described how the unsuspecting father and husband came home from work to discover his wife and son on the couch, completely naked. The teenager is said to have ran to the bathroom, while the dad branded Von Yates a “child predator”.

The father then drove his son to his grandparents’ house, telling the boy he “ruined his life” while drinking beer on the drive over, according to the affidavit. The following day the teen called Von Yates who told him he wished his father hadn’t caught them, the affidavit added.

Von Yates was arrested in November and had her nursing license revoked. She was handed an emergency suspension by the Florida Department of Health after it was found she “lacks the good judgment and moral character necessary to be a registered nurse”.
