Five years of lectures, examinations, assignments and academic pressure. Yet the number never moved from 5.0.

Francis Olusegun, a Mathematics graduate of the University of Ilorin, has attracted attention after completing his undergraduate programme with a reported perfect 5.0/5.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average.

ValidViewNetwork reports that Olusegun’s achievement has been celebrated as an exceptional academic feat, with reports describing him as an outstanding Mathematics graduate of the institution.

The Ogbomoso-born graduate first announced his first-class result after the university released its graduating list.

In a post announcing the result, Olusegun expressed gratitude that what he had waited for had finally come to pass, confirming that he had graduated with First Class honours in Mathematics.

But the headline achievement goes beyond simply graduating with First Class.

ValidViewNetwork gathered that Olusegun recorded a perfect 5.0/5.0 CGPA, the highest possible CGPA under the grading system reported for the programme.

For a Mathematics student, maintaining such a record requires sustained performance across multiple academic sessions rather than excellence in one examination or semester.

That consistency is what makes the achievement particularly notable. Olusegun’s academic journey also offers a different way of looking at academic excellence.

A perfect CGPA is not produced by one spectacular examination. It requires students to repeatedly meet the highest academic threshold across courses and semesters.

More Than a Number

ValidViewNetwork can confirm that Olusegun’s first-class graduation has been independently reported, while the reported perfect 5.0 CGPA has also been highlighted by local coverage of his achievement.

The achievement has attracted attention from his hometown of Ogbomoso, where his academic performance is being celebrated as a source of pride.

For younger Nigerian students, however, the significance of the story extends beyond the celebration surrounding one graduate.

It demonstrates what sustained academic discipline can produce when a student maintains focus over an entire undergraduate programme.

Olusegun now leaves the University of Ilorin with an academic record that has already distinguished his graduation.

The next chapter will determine what he does with it. For now, the Mathematics graduate has given his university journey a remarkable numerical signature: 5.0 out of 5.0.
