In a decisive operation against bandits and criminal elements terrorizing Kwara and its neighboring states, the Nigerian Army marked a significant victory on October 17, 2025, by successfully rescuing 21 kidnapped victims. Troops from the 2 Division, Sector 3 Operation FANSAN YAMA, orchestrated a coordinated operation involving the 12 Brigade Lokoja and the 22 Armoured Brigade Ilorin to secure the freedom of the abductees.

The rescued included 14 males, five females, one infant, and notably four Chinese nationals who had been held captive for various periods, some extending beyond four months. These victims were abducted from multiple locations spanning Kwara and Kogi states. The intensified offensive by Nigerian troops compelled the bandits to release their prisoners as the military’s sustained pressure left them no option but to abandon their captives.

Major General CR Nnebeife, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 2 Division and Commander of Sector 3 Operation FANSAN YAMA, personally coordinated the efforts and ensured that the rescued individuals received prompt medical attention and first aid to alleviate the effects of their ordeal. Most of the victims were physically weak and unable to walk without assistance but are reportedly responding well to treatment at a military medical facility. Plans are underway for their reunion with families upon full recovery.
The GOC expressed empathy for the victims’ suffering and reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to eradicating banditry within the Division’s Area of Responsibility, emphasizing that no sanctuary would be afforded to criminals. He commended the troops for their resilience and dedication and extended gratitude to the Nigerian Air Force and other security agencies for their collaborative efforts vital to this success.
Security operations remain ongoing, with the army maintaining a high operational tempo to restore peace and stability across Kwara, Kogi, and adjoining states. The synergy between ground troops and aerial support continues to be a crucial factor in the crackdown on criminal networks in the region.

This latest rescue aligns with previous successes reported in the area, showcasing the Nigerian Army’s strategic commitment to protecting citizens and curbing the menace of kidnapping and banditry in Nigeria’s North-West and North-Central zones.
