The Ministry of Information and Strategy (MOIS) Toastmasters Club has reaffirmed its commitment to professional excellence by hosting its International Speech and Evaluation Contests. Held on Tuesday at the Ministry’s Conference Room, the event, themed “Love Beyond Words,” served as a high-octane platform for Public Affairs Officers to showcase their communication and leadership prowess.
Area Director (Division D, District 130), TM Funmi Omotoso, opened the proceedings by describing the contests as the “heartbeat” of the Toastmasters educational curriculum. She commended the contestants for their courage, noting that such platforms are essential for personal and professional growth within the civil service.
Competitive Excellence in Focus
Contest Chair, TM Craig Esohwode, emphasized that the event transcended a regular club meeting, labeling it a “competitive speaking engagement” designed to identify the best oratory talents. This sentiment was echoed by Chief Judge TM Modupe Badiru, who ensured that rigorous standards of excellence were maintained throughout the briefings and performances.

The Speech Contest featured four diverse presentations:
- TM Babatunde Olubajo: Explored personal passion in “The Journey.”
- TM Babatunde Omisore: Spoke on the central theme, “Love Beyond Words.”
- TM Bukola Bakare: Delivered a lyrical reflection titled “Love, Music and Expression.”
- TM Kikelomo Oduyebo: Offered a motivational charge in “Push Until Something Happens.”
Winners and Next Steps
In the Evaluation category, TM Remi Oladiende and TM Aduragbemi Ogundeko competed in a battle of analytical wit, following a “Bonus Test Speech” by Club Sponsor TM Rasaq Odejayi titled “Listen Beyond the Ears.”

Following a close deliberation by the judges, TM Bukola Bakare emerged as the Best Speaker. She is set to represent the MOIS Toastmasters Club at the District level. In the Evaluation Contest, TM Aduragbemi Ogundeko secured the first-place position.

Sustaining the Momentum
Closing the event, Charter President and Director of the Strategy Centre, TM Kayode Oyekanmi, expressed satisfaction with the high standard of the presentations. He vowed to sustain the club’s momentum, highlighting the Toastmasters platform as a vital tool for Lagos State Public Affairs Officers to refine their messaging and public engagement skills.

The event concluded with the presentation of certificates to all participants, marking another milestone in the “Greater Lagos Rising” initiative.
