…VC Hails ‘New Dawn Where Scholarship Meets Spirituality’
…Registrar Describes Her as ‘Matriarch of Uncommon Dignity’

Caleb University, Imota, Lagos State, has appointed Pastor (Mrs.) Foluke Adenike Adeboye as its Chancellor, three days after conferring on her an honorary Doctor of Humanity (Honoris Causa) at its 15th Convocation Ceremony.

The appointment of Pastor Adeboye, widely known as Mummy G.O., was formally announced by the University’s Governing Council shortly after the convocation, which saw 1,924 students graduate, including 96 First Class awardees and 22 PhD recipients.

The institution described her elevation to the ceremonial headship of the university as a significant milestone in its quest to strengthen moral leadership and institutional values.

Pastor Adeboye is the wife of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye. Beyond her role within the church, she is recognised as a pastor, educationist, administrator and international conference speaker with decades of experience in youth mentorship and family advocacy.

At the convocation ceremony, university officials and dignitaries paid tribute to her lifetime commitment to moral development, education and humanitarian service. The honorary doctorate, they noted, was in recognition of her sustained contributions to nation-building through faith-based and educational initiatives.

Announcing her appointment, the Governing Council stated that the office of Chancellor is the highest ceremonial position in the university and serves as the custodian of its traditions and moral compass.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olalekan Asikhia, described the development as a defining moment in the university’s history. He said the appointment represents “a new dawn where scholarship kneels comfortably beside spirituality.”

According to him, the university’s leadership believes that strong moral foundations are essential for sustainable academic excellence and institutional growth.

Registrar of the university, Mr. Mayokun Olumeru, also commended the appointment, describing Pastor Adeboye as “a matriarch of uncommon dignity, a guardian of values, and a steady moral compass in turbulent times.”

He added that the university community considers it an honour to have her serve in a role that symbolises continuity, credibility and conscience.

As Chancellor, Pastor Adeboye will preside over convocations, confer degrees and provide ceremonial leadership, while also lending moral authority to the university’s strategic direction.

University officials noted that her vast experience in faith, leadership development and global humanitarian networks is expected to enhance the institution’s partnerships and goodwill initiatives.

Observers within the academic community have described the appointment as a convergence of intellectual pursuit and ethical leadership, particularly at a time when universities are under increasing pressure to balance excellence with integrity.

The convocation lecture, delivered by Rev. Sam Aboyeji, emphasised the importance of character in professional and academic life. He urged graduates to pursue excellence anchored on strong ethical foundations.

Many stakeholders believe that Pastor Adeboye’s chancellorship aligns with that message, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to values-driven education.

Founded on Christian principles, Caleb University has continued to position itself within Nigeria’s higher education landscape through academic reforms and infrastructural development.

The university said the new Chancellor’s acceptance of the role underscores her continued dedication to youth development and moral leadership.

In a statement issued by the institution’s Information, Media and Publication Specialist, Mr. Olawale Adekoya, the university expressed confidence that her tenure would further strengthen its vision and global outlook.

“With the enthronement of character at the highest level of our ceremonial leadership, we are confident that Caleb University’s future is fortified,” the statement said.

The institution added that the appointment signals its resolve to blend academic distinction with enduring ethical values as it charts a new course in its development.
