Moghalu Rejects Appointment to Atiku’s 2027 Policy Team

​ABUJA — Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Professor Kingsley Moghalu, has strongly distanced himself from the 2027 presidential campaign team of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.

​Moghalu’s disavowal follows the public unveiling of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential campaign structure, which erroneously listed him as a member of its policy team. The broader campaign council announcement also featured high-profile figures such as former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and campaign manager Senator Austin Akobundu.

​Expressing utter surprise at the development, the former CBN chief maintained that his inclusion was entirely unauthorized. Clarifying his position in a strongly worded public statement, Moghalu emphasized the following key points:

• ​Zero Consultation or Consent: He received no prior briefing, nor did he give any form of approval for his name to be featured on the ADC candidate’s policy panel.

• ​No Official or Informal Affiliation: He categorically denied serving in any advisory capacity, reiterating that he holds no ties to Atiku’s campaign.

• ​Permanent Exit from Partisan Politics: Having formally stepped away from political partisanship in 2022, he remains completely unaffiliated with any political party or camp in Nigeria.

• ​Current Professional Focus: His primary efforts are channeled toward national development through non-partisan platforms, serving as the President of IGET Africa—a public policy think tank—and as CEO of the geopolitical risk consultancy Sogato Strategies.

​Reaffirming his dedication to the country, Moghalu noted that true national progress does not require diving back into the murky waters of party politics. “I remain committed to my country, Nigeria, and its progress, but such commitment does not have to entail any partisan alignment,” he stated. “I have adopted the path of statesmanship, not partisanship.”

​As of press time, the Atiku Abubakar and ADC campaign organization has yet to issue an official response regarding the oversight.
