In a video response, Meloni said Trump’s claims were “completely fabricated” and expressed disbelief that the US president would “invent such things about an ally.” She added firmly: “Italy and I do not beg.” Her statement came after Trump, in an interview broadcast on Italy’s La7 network, claimed Meloni had “begged” him for a photo-op during the G7 summit in Evian-les-Bains, France.

Meloni said she felt compelled to respond because “certain things deserve an immediate response.” She added: “I don’t know why the president of the United States behaves this way toward his own allies. After all, this isn’t the first time this has happened.” ValidViewNetwork reports.

Her final remark appeared to reference Trump’s April interview with Italian daily Corriere della Sera, in which he criticized Meloni’s stance on the US-Israel war in Iran.
