ALAUSA, IKEJA – In a strategic move to digitize and streamline the management of the education sector, the Lagos State Government has announced a new partnership between the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MBSE) and the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA).
The collaboration, solidified during a courtesy visit by the Permanent Secretary of MBSE, Mrs. Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite, to LASRRA headquarters on Wednesday, aims to integrate resident data into the state’s educational framework. The centerpiece of this initiative is the creation of a specialized dashboard that will assign a unique LASRRA identification number to every student in Lagos, specifically focusing on junior and senior secondary schools.
Data-Driven Education
During the visit, Mrs. Dokunmu-Adegbite emphasized that the Ministry is pivoting toward evidence-based decision-making. By leveraging LASRRA’s comprehensive database, the Ministry intends to gain a clearer understanding of school-age demographics across the state.

”This partnership will ensure that a dashboard is created where Lagos State students get a unique LASRRA identification number,” the Permanent Secretary stated. “It will allow us to better track enrollment, allocate resources more effectively, and ensure that no child is left behind in our quest for quality education.”
Enhancing Resource Allocation
The integration is expected to solve long-standing challenges in educational planning. Accurate data will enable the government to identify areas with high student density, allowing for the proactive construction of classrooms and the deployment of teachers where they are most needed.

Responding to the proposal, the General Manager of LASRRA, Mrs. Bilikiss Adebiyi-Abiola, affirmed the Agency’s readiness to provide technical expertise and secure access to relevant data pools. She noted that the move aligns with the Agency’s mandate to support government initiatives through a centralized resident registry.
“We will give our optimal cooperation to ensure a great feat is achieved in the education sector regarding data integration,” Adebiyi-Abiola said, while assuring that all processes would strictly adhere to established data protection regulations.

Next Steps
To ensure the seamless execution of this project, both parties have agreed to set up a joint technical committee. This team will be responsible for designing the data-sharing protocols and the modalities for the student dashboard.

The initiative follows a series of recent efforts by LASRRA to deepen registration across various sectors, including recent campaigns targeting private schools and grassroots communities. Stakeholders believe that linking student identities to the state’s resident database will significantly improve the accuracy of the Lagos State Education Management Systems (LASGEMS) and enhance the overall delivery of public services to parents, teachers, and students alike.
