Abeokuta, Ogun State – Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) is set to hold its 15th Combined Convocation Ceremony on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, marking a historic moment after nearly a decade without such an event. The ceremony will celebrate the graduation of more than 51,000 students who completed their National Diplomas (ND) and Higher National Diplomas (HND) across nine academic sessions, spanning from 2015/2016 to 2023/2024.

The convocation lecture will be delivered by Hon. (Dr.) Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman and CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM). Scheduled to take place at 11:00 am in the Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD) Auditorium, her address titled “Diaspora Perspective and the Influence of STEM in the Globalized World of Today” promises to provide valuable insights into leveraging diaspora engagement for national development, with a focus on innovation and global relevance.

At a press briefing held on Thursday at the Polytechnic’s Administrative Building in Abeokuta, the institution’s Rector, Arc. Dr. Babatunde Adekoyejo Jolaoso, described the convocation as a “new dawn” for MAPOLY under his leadership, which began six months ago. He highlighted significant strides made, including restoring confidence among staff and students, ongoing infrastructure upgrades, an improved academic calendar, and stronger partnerships with industry and alumni.

Dr. Jolaoso also emphasized the rebranding of MAPOLY’s image to align with global best practices, expressing gratitude to Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his steadfast support. He also acknowledged the contributions of Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, and the Polytechnic’s Governing Council.

“This convocation is a landmark achievement, being the first since the 2014/2015 academic session and covering nine sessions,” Dr. Jolaoso said. “It signals a renewed spirit of progress and sets the stage for regular convocation ceremonies moving forward.”

Honorary Awards to Distinguished Nigerians

In addition to the graduation ceremony, MAPOLY will confer Honorary Fellowship Awards and Awards of Excellence on notable Nigerians who have made outstanding contributions to education, industry, and national development.

Among the honorees are Aremo Olusegun Osoba, former Ogun State Governor and veteran journalist, who will receive an Honorary Fellowship Award. Other recipients include High Chief Tosin Owolabi Fadare and Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals and former Deputy Governor of Lagos State.

The convocation will also feature prize presentations to outstanding students, exhibitions, a distinguished alumni award night, a special Jum’at service, and a thanksgiving service. Ogun State Governor, Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun, as the Polytechnic’s Moderator, will be the Special Guest of Honour.

This long-awaited convocation not only celebrates the academic accomplishments of thousands of graduates but also underscores MAPOLY’s resilience and renewed commitment to academic excellence and global relevance under its current leadership.
