A dramatic incident has unfolded in Ijebu Ode, where a suspected thief, identified as Jeremiah Kosesochi Nwoke, reportedly died while attempting to steal the revered Agemo statue at the Itoro Roundabout. The statue is located near the ultramodern palace of the Awujale of Ijebuland.
According to eyewitnesses, the deceased made multiple attempts under the cover of darkness to uproot and steal the symbolic statue. Despite successfully uprooting it, he died during the process of carting it away. The incident has left residents in shock and sparked significant community discussion. Initial reports suggested the man was unconscious, but later updates confirmed his death. However, some sources indicate that he may have been revived by the custodian of the Agemo.
